Even if you have not followed our recommended used car checklist, you still have legal rights if there is something wrong with your used car. For example, if it repeatedly breaks down, doesn’t match the description you were given or you discover that it has a false mileage reading, you may legally be able to recoup some, or all of your money.
Please be aware that you will not be entitled to anything if the following statements are true:
- You were made aware of the fault before purchasing the vehicle and said fault was explained to you
- You inspected the car and didn’t notice the issue (ie. a dent or scratch that was fully visible)
- The fault is deemed as fair wear and tear for the age of the vehicle
This will require a little investigation. A motor trade association may be able to help you if you have any issues in getting the vehicle repaired or gaining a partial or full refund if you feel that you have been misled.
